Better Than Mozart (at 21): The Music of Thomas Linley, Jr.

The Big Apple Baroque Orchestra Alan Fellow, conductor with soloist Cyrus Beroukhim, violin
Big Apple Baroque presents an all-Linley programme to benefit homeless projects in the parish. This event may be the first all-Linley concert New York has ever seen. "Linley who?": an exact English contemporary of Mozart described as "a true genius" by Mozart himself. As to why this extraordinary composer is so little known, Linley drowned in a boating accident at the age of 22. Tragically, most of his music has been lost and little of what survived has been published. Nevertheless, Linley's extant work is extraordinarily good music. Big Apple Baroque will be performing the one-act oratorio Song of Moses (1777) in addition to incidental music to the Tempest and a violin concerto.
