TENET
UNO + ONE

Jolle Greenleaf & Molly Quinn, sopranos; Daniel S. Lee & Alexander Woods, violins; Hank Heijink & Daniel Swenberg, theorbos; Avi Stein, harpsichord

The sopranos of TENET offer an intimate performance of solos and duets for sopranos and violins by Italian master Claudio Monteverdi and his contemporaries.  Drawn from an incredible wealth of sweet, passionate, and dramatic repertoire, we look forward to sharing these known and unknown selections from our larger program being performed at Columbia University's Casa Italiana on Friday, May 4, 2012.

Alba Consort
The Dawn of Discovery

Margo Grib, soprano; Rex Benincasa, percussion; Carlo Valte, oud; Charles Weaver, lute

This program explores popular music from the beginning of the Age of Exploration.  Passionate songs and compelling dances from Spain, Italy, France and Cyprus are performed on traditional instruments.

ARTEK
Love: How Sweet the Torments

Laura Heimes, soprano; Barbara Hollinshead, mezzo-soprano; Ryland Angel, countertenor; Philip Anderson, tenor; Michael Brown, tenor; Peter Becker, bass-baritone; Motomi Igarashi, viola da gamba; Daniel Swenberg, theorbo; Charles Weaver, lute; Gwendolyn Toth, harpsichord & director

ARTEK, America's premier ensemble performing 17th century music, will present a selection of madrigals by Claudio Monteverdi from Book 4 and 5. The program includes some of his greatest a cappella madrigal masterpieces from both books as well as several of the brilliant accompanied madrigals introduced in Book 5.  ARTEK's singers, all recognized virtuoso soloists, together form a superb ensemble that delivers as one singer the passion and drama of Monteverdi's music.
