Musica Sacra Chorus and Orchestra Kent Tritle, music director Jonathan G. Michie, baritone
Music Director Kent Tritle, hailed by The New York Times as “the brightest star in New York’s choral music world,” leads the Musica Sacra Chorus and Orchestra in poignant works of Scarlatti and Bach. The program opens with Domenico Scarlatti’s stunning Stabat Mater, sumptuously scored for 10 part chorus and basso continuo. From the pensive opening to brilliant polyphony and beautifully ornamented solo writing, this choral tour de force has earned its position as one of the most exquisite settings of the heartrending poem.
Two of Bach’s beloved motets will be heard on the program, Komm, Jesu, komm, BWV 229, and Singet dem Herrn, BWV 225, as well as the intimate Cantata No. 82, “Ich habe genug” for solo baritone, oboe, strings and continuo. Musica Sacra is honored to present baritone Jonathan G. Michie in his Lincoln Center debut performing this glorious cantata.
