Our semi-monthly email newsletter, Notes on the Scene, is devoted to early music events in and around New York City and related news. It is emailed on the first and third Thursdays of every month to a growing "opt-in" list of over 5,400 subscribers.
You can purchase a listing which displays basic information, a thumbnail photo, and a link to a full page on the GEMS website devoted to your event or season, displaying photos, details and program notes. You are welcome to link to this page in any of your other publicity. Events we consider to be of unusual interest or exceptional quality will be given more prominence in a "Featured Events" section; inclusion in this section is an editorial decision. The newsletter will also include general news about early music in NYC and about GEMS.
Edited by Naomi Morse, Notes on the Scene was selected as one of nine "SuperStar" e-newsletters (from among thousands, apparently) by Vertical Response, the national emailing service firm, based on its quality of content and design. We are featured in some of VR's advertising materials. Since our mailing list is "opt-in," it means that each person has, in some way, indicated an interest in early music performance, and is therefore more likely to open the message. Vertical Response is a well-respected commercial email service that only accepts opt-in lists such as ours, and has registered with all the major ISP mail services, ensuring that our messages are not categorically deleted as spam.
With a Newsletter listing, your event will also appear in the "Upcoming Events" page on our website, with a link to your event page.
Deadline is one week before the schedule launch date.
To order a spot in the Notes on the Scene Newsletter:
1. Email us with the information about your event. Please include the following as text (either in the body of the email, or attached as a Microsoft Word document or similar. Do not send a .pdf file) :
♦ Title of event, plus any additional tag line or rubric ♦ Date(s) and Time(s), including any pre-concert event such as lecture, and post-concert event such as reception ♦ Location, with complete street address ♦ Ticket prices, including special prices for seniors, students, members of organizations, etc. ♦ Places where tickets may be obtained, including online URLs, box office, telephone, at the door, etc. ♦ One or two paragraphs describing your event ♦ Names of participating artists (if available) ♦ Pieces to be performed (if available) ♦ Your contact information, including URL of your website (if available), your name and telephone number ♦ ATTACH one or two photos or graphics (format: .jpg) we may include in the newsletter (these may be of any size or resolution)
2. Please indicate when you want your submission included in the newsletter (NOTE: they go out on the FIRST & THIRD Thursday of each month). If you only purchase one submission, we will list your event in our reminders section "Upcoming Events" in any subsequent newsletters, if applicable. If you wish to have your event included IN FULL in more than one newsletter, you must purchase multiple submissions.
3. Our fee is $75 - $200 per submission, based on the size of your organization's annual budget. Charge it securely to a credit card or your PayPal account.
