Early Music Series Inaugural Season 2009-2010 JUST COMPLETED!
Five concerts... Benefit gala... Three exquisite East Side venues
Salon/Sanctuary's first season was sponsored by the Gruson Fund for Brain Tumor Research and Care and produced by Gotham Early Music Scene, Inc. Both believe that our need for the arts becomes ever more urgent in times of stress, whether our plight involves a stagnant economy or intractable illness. A simple concert becomes a sacred window of tranquility, and the salon becomes a sanctuary from daily troubles.

Internationally celebrated artists-- organist and conductor John Scott, baroque violinist Monica Huggett, and mezzo Jennifer Lane-- join many of New York's most respected interpreters of baroque and classical repertoire, including the Clarion Music Society, Sinfonia New York, soprano Jessica Gould, fortepianist Audrey Axinn, Repast Baroque Ensemble, and the Dodd String Quartet, in a new chamber music series on Manhattan's East Side.
The Salon/Sanctuary concert on March 28, 2010 with Jessica Gould, Jennifer Lane and Sinfonia New York was reviewed by Allan Kozinn in The New York Times. Read the review here.
The
Salon/Sanctuary series offers an opportunity to hear early music in the kinds
of spaces for which it was intended.
Sacred music is presented in the intimate Church of the Epiphany, while
salon repertoire will be heard in the 1799 Abigail Adams Smith Auditorium at the Mount Vernon House and Museum. In addition to the five concerts of the
Salon/Sanctuary series, the elegant townhouse of the Kosciuszko Foundation will
be the setting for a gala benefit featuring music for royal entertainment.
