Trinity Choir is the preeminent professional vocal ensemble downtown,
presenting rich concerts of master composers such as Bach, Handel, and
Monteverdi, as well as new and innovative music.
This season,
the Choir promises the same eclectic excellence. Concerts range from
the solemn to the exuberant, with an exploration of Renaissance,
baroque, and contemporary requiems, Handel’s beloved Messiah, unique
choral music from Estonia, Bach's glorious Johannes-Passion, surprising

Both concerts are complete performances.

ESTONIA TO EUROPE
Stefan Parkman, Guest Conductor
Monday, February 8, 2010 · 7:30pm
Maestro Stefan Parkman returns to lead the choir in music from Estonia, Finland and continental Europe; stunning choral works of the 20th and 21st centuries. This program of virtuosic a cappella music features works by Baltic composers Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis, and Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, alongside powerful masterpieces including Poulenc’s Figure humaine, and Schoenberg’s Friede auf Erden, as well as lighter music by Pizzetti. This exceptionally challenging program travels from secular responses to war (Poulenc’s epic piece followed WWII), and tragedy (Mäntyjärvi’s memoriam to the sinking of the “MS Estonia” in 1994) to Schoenberg’s sacred plea for — and ultimately his musical vision of — true ‘Peace on Earth’.

| JOHANNES-PASSION by Johann Sebastian Bach
Andrew Parrott, Guest Conductor
with the
Trinity Baroque Orchestra Robert Mealy, Concertmaster
Monday, March 15, 2010 · 7:30pm
Although perhaps not as vast or well known as the Matthaüs-Passion, the Johannes-Passion is, for some, more dramatic and varied. This beautiful work is inspired by chapters 18 and 19 of the Gospel of John.
