The concert begins with the Concerto á 5 in A Major by Johan Daniel Berlin, one of Norway’s first known composers who made meteorological and astronomical observations. The Oboe Concerto No. 1 by composer William Herschel, an astronomer who built his telescope and discovered Uranus in 1781, features soloist Gonzalo Ruiz. C.P.E. Bach wrote his Symphony in B Minor during the German literature period of sturm und drang, when he created short pieces inspired by individualism. Last is Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony, his longest and final symphony.
