Description

Renchorny queenmaryAustro-Hungarian Court Composers

The RenChorNY Chamber Choir will be joined by viols in this presentation of music by Austro-Hungarian court composers. Like her grandfather Maximilian I, who employed Isaac and Senfl, Mary Queen of Hungary employed the Court composer Thomas Stoltzer to set Luther’s new 1524 Hebrew-German Psalm translations to six- and seven-voice polyphony. Senfl arranged Josquin’s Ave Maria for 6 voices. These and other motets are featured by RenChorNY in two performances, led by Richard Porterfield.
