The Viola Bastarda.
Calling for incredible range and agility it is no wonder that the viola da gamba was dubbed ‘the queen’ of the bastarda style. This program will explore the viola bastarda repertoire from its origins in the mid 16th century up until its final compositions in the early 17th century.
Described by The New York Times as a “fine instrumental soloist” Arnie Tanimoto performs in venues across the United States, Europe, and Japan. A recipient of a Frank Huntington Beebe Fund Fellowship he has performed and recorded with the likes of Barthold Kuijken, and the Boston Early Music Festival Ensemble.
