Telemann in Paris Part III.

In 1737 Georg Philip Telemann journeyed to Paris at the enthusiastic and long-standing invitation of four distinguished French musicians: the flutist Michel Blavet, the violinist Jean-Pierre Guignon, the gambist Jean-Baptiste Forqueray, and a cellist/harpsichordist known as Prince Adouard. In anticipation of this historic visit, the great master of the goûts-réunis wrote two sets of six quartets expressly for these four musicians. The first set was published in Hamburg; subsequently, both sets were published in Paris. All twelve quartets were played by the four musicians themselves, accompanied, no doubt.

Tableau Vivant, or ‘living picture,’ is a period instrument ensemble devoted to 17th- & 18th-century repertoire for violin, & basso continuo with additional instruments, most frequently, with flute and viola da gamba. Its core members, Karen Marie Marmer, violin and Dongsok Shin, harpsichord are principals of the internationally acclaimed ensemble, REBEL.
