Rachel Nicola 500x350Explore the virtuosity and fantasy of these early Italian works for violin and continuo. From diminutions on Palestrina madrigals to sonatas with vivid contrasts, these works from such composers as Rognoni, Marini, and Uccellini paint a varied and colorful portrait of affect. We may throw in our favorite Schmeltzer sonata because we love it so much!

Rachel Prendergast ~ baroque violin
Nicola Canzano ~ harpsichord

Recent graduates of Juilliard's Historical Performance program, Rachel Prendergast, violinist, and Nicola Canzano, harpsichordist, have collaborated extensively and share a love of the early repertoire. Rachel and Nicola hold degrees respectively from Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music, University of Michigan, and The Juilliard School. Nicola is the founder of Nuovo Practica, which focuses on improvising in Baroque music and composing in the early music style.
