Joseph JonesJoseph Jones ~ bassoon
Robert Warner ~ harpsichord
Serafim Smigelskiy ~ cello

When 'Le basson' spread to Germany in the late 17th and early 18th century, along with the other French innovated wind instruments, it was a revelation in new technique, and expressive possibilities. This program imagines that stylistic journey — from culturally imperial France to Hamburg, Dresden, and Halle — where the bassoon found a new and distinct Germanic voice.

Joseph Jones works as a bassoonist performing throughout the country and occasionally around the world. Ensembles he has worked with include The English Concert, TENET, NYBI, ACRONYM, Boston Early Music Festival, Early Music New York, American Bach Soloists, Lyra Baroque Orchestra, and Les Arts Florissants at the festival Dans les Jardins de William Christie in Thiré, France.
