Out of the Mist.TwaCorbiespublicityphoto

Out of the Mist explores the very early music of the British Isles, through the development of Middle English polyphony. The program includes songs and poetry of the Norse and Anglo-Saxon raiders and settlers, the chants of Celtic monks, and songs in the emerging Middle English language, as well as instrumental music of medieval England. This project was born out of a linguistic, historical, and musicological fascination with early medieval Britain, and a desire to illustrate the development of the English language through the music and poetry of the period from roughly 900-1400 AD.

Twa Corbies is a medieval music ensemble committed to exploring and performing the ancient music of the British Isles and Scandinavia. They perform this music on historical harps, bagpipes, and lutes, and base their performances in information drawn from medieval sources, including manuscripts, artwork, language, and culture.
