Description

Opera Essentia Antigone web"From Hell to Antigone", a One-Hour Distillation of Handel's Admeto [1727]

This steamy love triangle saga unfolds in bittersweet beauty, one ravishing aria after another. Betrayal, Longing, Jealousy, and Bewilderment just scratch the surface. A curse reversed, a rejection amended, but then she's back from the dead... How can a heart survive it all??

Opera Essentia performs with harpsichord and gut string quartet, in various New York City locales — mostly outdoors. This is the third curation of a Handel work by Artistic Director and countertenor, Jeffrey Mandelbaum. With Nicole Besa, Kristin Renee Young, Melisa Bonetti, Hans Tashjian and Rebecca Pechefsky.
